Dr. Alex Vakaloudis

Biography: Dr Alex Vakaloudis joined the Nimbus Centre at MTI to work as a Lecturer/Research Fellow in December 2012 and since then, leading a team of eight full-time researchers has delivered more than 100 industrial projects of IoT applications in factories, education, agriculture, ambient assisted living (AAL) and other domain with emphasis on back-end/front-end software, data communications, cloud computing and user experience. He has been awarded one Commercialisation Fund, four Innovation Partnerships out of 9 IP feasibility Studies and has also received funding from SFI, IRC, Innovation Public Fund, Google and AWS.

Alex has a MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Thessaloniki, Greece (1995), MPhil (1997) and PhD (2000) in Computation, Manchester. His next position was in the Politechnico in Milan for a one-year postdoc tenure and then moved to London to work in the IT industry for six years, building e-commerce, mobile and betting applications based on J2EE/Oracle. In 2006, he moved back to Greece where he taught as a part-time lecturer in the University of Macedonia while in the industry he managed the development of server and web-based applications for health management, e-learning, newspaper management and IPTV. He is a Funded Investigator in the CONFIRM SFI Centre, a certified AWS Architect, and an AWS Educate Ambassador.
